Wheel Building
Wheel building is overseen at the premises by Richard Holkham, who has amongst his credits been a Tandem National and Suisse Normande Time Trial winner, Silver medallist at Olympic level, as well as racing in many countries abroad. He also did the wheel building for some of the other Olympic participants.
After a road accident which forced his early retirement from the Fire Brigade, Richard worked for 10 years at M & J's, the well-known road racing shop in Brighton, until 1995.
Years of experience and a personal interest in his craft has made Richard an absolute perfectionist in his field. "Each wheel is different, and I take a pride in the finished article. I always like to hear how my fellow cycling enthusiasts have got on in their races and like to take a little bit of the reflected glory, if possible!" says Richard.
It can take up to 2.5 hours to make one wheel and Baker Street Bikes only uses Mavic rims and best quality stainless steel spokes. Each wheel is guaranteed for one year. The service of Baker Street Bikes includes free adjustments as required throughout the guarantee period, ensuring the wheel always operates at optimum capacity.
